This award is given anually to the person or group of persons or legal entities resident in Colombia who has completed the major scientific and technical merit in the computer area, considered by a jury appointed by the board of the Association, to that effect.

The Colombian Computing Award was instituted since 1985 to stimulate creativity and meritorious achievements in the Systems Engineering field. Its main objective is to acknowledge outstanding contributions to computer science as a discipline or field of application.

The work presented by the Universidad de los Andes is the result of a research project in teaching engineering, developed over the past three years, and in which has been involved a large number of professors and researchers. The project is focus on the search of new ways of teaching programming, a fundamental element in every career that has a technologic component.

The jury emphasized the academic rigor of the work, the publications in the national and international level to report the obtained results, the publications of the books and materials to support the learning process (more than 150 learning objects built), and the potential impact in the Latinamerican university environment, since all the developed elements are public.
